Dunbar's Hospital on Church Street, was
an ancient looking house said to be built using the materials from
Oliver Cromwell's Fort. It was bequeathed to the community by
Provost Dunbar in 1668, but was afterwards used as a grammar school
until the opening of the Royal Academy in 1782. |
The building was then divided to serve as a parish
library, female school, female work society, the ground floor being
occupied by the fire engines. During the time that the cholera raged in
Inverness, part of it again served as a hospital. |
